Block Blast is a BLAST to Play! (Mobile/Phone Game Review – Android)

Taking HEAVY inspiration from Tetris, Block Blast will have you HOOKED! Fast.

Available on mobile/phones (iOS & Android), Block Blast is a free game to play. And there are no in-app purchases. Though, I wish there was a way to remove the in-game ads.

Anyway! I was originally introduced to the game by my girlfriend’s younger brother. Immediately, I was fascinated by it. It is a simple game to pick up and play. Essentially, you are given three tetrominoes at a time and you have to place them on an 8×8 grid. The goal, like Tetris, is to clear lines and make more space. If you ever need to place a piece but are unable to, the game will immediately end.

Currently, my high score is 112,000-something. And I have determined that once I get to 200,000+ I will uninstall the game. Because I am already growing bored of it.

Now… Do not get me wrong here! I have enjoyed my time with the game. Immensely. But I feel like I am starting to reach my limit for the amount of points I can achieve in a single session. And it is beginning to feel repetitive to me at this point. Yet… I will forever be thankful for the experience I have had with Block Blast. As, really, I discovered it during a rather pivotal time in my life.

And yeah, there are other games to play in the app. Like… A maze game called One Line (which is enjoyable). But it is not good enough to keep me wanting to stick around for much longer.

There is also an “Adventure” mode I could work my way through. With 96 levels in total. But I do not find that mode nearly as engaging as the “Classic” (beat your high score) mode.

All in all though, I WHOLEHEARTEDLY recommend giving Block Blast a try. To me, it felt uniquely special. It inspired me to want to write again and to want to play more games more consistently. It, really, in a strange way… Block Blast has changed my life.

(perhaps that is a bit hyperbolic, but still…)
