They may not necessarily change your life, but I do think that pocket notebooks will overall improve your life in ways you could have never even expected.
I’ve been jotting A LOT of my ideas down in one of the mini composition books I’ve recently acquired. It’s been fun! But, sometimes, it’s not nearly as convenient as I would hope for it to be. Still, overall… I’d say that pocket notebooks are a decent investment. Especially if you have a mind like mine (one that doesn’t seem to ever really “stop” or quiet itself).
And here I thought that pocket notebooks weren’t for me. Rather, I’ve just been investing in the wrong kind of pocket notebooks. But I finally found the EXACT kind of pocket notebook I wanted. So… I haphazardly bought six of them at once. Looking back… I don’t regret that decision. I’ve already used three of them and they are filling up rather quickly. And it’s nice to know that I have some room to make a few errors because I still have a few more notebooks that I can write in later on.
One’s for “IDEAS.” The others are for “LIFE” and “GAMES.” Admittedly though, “IDEAS” and “LIFE” are roughly interchangeable. Still… I believe there to be enough of a difference between the two to justify using two different notebooks for them.
Anyway, I love these little notebooks. Especially since I have the tendency to ramble on a bit in my writing. They force me to narrow down my words, to write more succinctly. The difference between these pocket notebooks and a regular-sized notebook is similar to the difference between making a social media post on Facebook versus Twitter/X. Facebook allows you to say whatever, whereas Twitter/X has a character limit. It’s the same thing with these notebooks here, really.
My only real complaint is that the notebooks I bought are fairly small. And so, they can be cumbersome and uncomfortable to write in at times. I just wish the ones I got were, like, an inch or two taller. But it’s not that much of a hindrance for me. And overall, I like how they easily fit into my pocket.
I also like how they’re relatively low profile. Like, you can write in these a bit more privately than a notebook of regular size. And I don’t have that fear of someone looking over my shoulder, reading what I’m writing. It’s nice. Really nice, actually. I’m able to express myself a bit more freely in these notebooks from practically anywhere in the world. But I haven’t actually taken these outside much yet. It’s been too cold. I’m looking forward to the Summer though… Taking these out with me when I go on walks and stuff sounds like Heaven.
One of the biggest worries I had though before buying the pocket notebooks was that I thought 80 pages per notebook would not be enough. That’s sort of why I bought six at one time. And, well… I was wrong! It’s actually the PERFECT amount of pages (for me, at least). There’s just enough pages there to write something meaningful in each one without being particularly overwhelming. Honestly, it has been a long time since I’ve filled out a notebook in full. But I can easily see myself filling out each one of these pocket notebooks within a few months or so.
All of this to say… Pocket notebooks are awesome! And, now, after using a few for myself I’m able to better understand the cult-like appeal to these little books. Do I think that using one will change your life? No. Not really. But they are a great way to write down and organize your thoughts and feelings. Overall, I’d recommend giving them a chance. They’re cool and surprisingly fun to use.
